Kahlil Franklin with Shannon Cox

Thirty years.  Kahlil Franklin has manned his post as an MCESC Educational Assistant for thirty years.  When the students arrive at Learning Center East they know Mr. K, as he is affectionately known, will be there smiling with a good word.

“Consistency is so important for our kids,” said Holly Pressley, Principal at LC East.  “When they see Mr. K they know they are safe and loved.  He has a calming effect on our kids.”

This makes sense because Mr. K is a calm guy.  The Patterson Co-op product enjoys grilling out, (his medium rare ribeye steak is a house favorite), watching sports, or firing up Scarface on the DVD player.  His philosophy is no-nonsense in a Zen sort of way.  “Don’t make excuses, make improvements” is his mantra and it has served him well.

“Having the opportunity to work with a staff that puts the needs of the kids first is so inspiring and everyone is so cool to worth with,” said Mr. K.  “Coming to work and seeing the kids is a good day.”

When the kids come in and see him it is equally a good day for them.  Kahlil Franklin is a constant here at the MCESC and our kids are the better for it.
