Vision Intervention

VISIONARY LEADERS PROVIDING EXEMPLARY SERVICE IN 8 COUNTIES

Vision Services are those provided by a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).  Direct and consultation educational services are provided for school districts that have students who are visually impaired between the ages of 3 to 21 years.  Direct services include, but are not limited to, instruction of compensatory skills, learning media assessment, assistive technology, independent living, transition, sensory, etc.  Consultation services include but are not limited to, providing students, staff, and families with resources, teaching strategies, and equipment needs.


Compensatory - Compensatory skills are strategies, techniques and adapted materials needed by blind and visually impaired students in order to access all areas of the curriculum.  Examples are braille, keyboarding, concept development, study and organizational skills, etc.


Learning Media Assessment (LMA) - LMA is an assessment for determining the appropriate learning and literacy media for a student with a visual impairment.  The LMA determines the students' learning style and media as braille, large print, digital text, and or auditory by the student's efficiency in using their vision, touch, and hearing to accomplish learning.


Assistive Technology - Students with visual impairments may need low and or high tech equipment to help them access the curriculum.  A Teacher of the Visually Impaired can assist with these decisions and provide instruction.


Independent Living - Includes techniques specialized for students who are visually impaired in the preparation of food, hygiene, clothing care, money management, etc.


Transition Skills - Instruction and resources related to the special needs for transition.
