MCESC Business Advisory Council Receives 4 STARS

Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted announced The Montgomery County Educational Service Center as one of only 4 ESC’s state-wide to achieve four-stars.

DAYTON, OH – The Business Advisory Council (BAC), under the services provided by the Montgomery County Educational Service Center (MCESC),  has been awarded the highest rating in the 2023 Business-Education Leader Awards for Excellent Business Advisory Councils.  The designation is for “exceptional work building strong partnerships to instill professional skills for future careers and coordinating experiences for students.” (ODE website) 

“Our Business Advisory Council is committed to extending opportunities to students,” Bryan Stewart, MCESC Workforce Director said. “ This is a wonderful acknowledgment of our hard work. We are so appreciative of all our different partners that have collaborated to better connect students to careers.”

In addition, the MCESC BAC program received two awards of excellence in the categories of 

Developing Professional Skills for the Future and in Building Partnerships.

“From the beginning, we said we would not just be compliant,” Shannon Cox, MCESC Superintendent said.  “Instead, we would meet the spirit of the law and allow every student in Montgomery and Warren counties to build a Future Self Vision that allows them to access their future and give them hope.”  

All Ohio school districts are legislated by Ohio law to participate in Business Advisory Councils.  The MCESC coordinates twenty-three local school districts in its BAC program.  Ohio has over 110 Business Advisory Councils, and the MCESC was one of only four ESC’s  to achieve the FOUR-STAR designation.

Locally, the MCESC BAC partnership engages school leaders and business leaders to promote dialogue and strategy building to energize the student learning experience.  The MCESC BAC program holds meetings, strategy sessions and  job fairs, providing students, parents, and businesses tools to develop working relationships which focus on student growth. 

“We have lots of work to do but we’re proud of the progress we have made,” Stewart said.

This year award addendums were scored by Ohio Excels, Ohio Restaurant Association, Office of Workforce Transformation,  Ohio Hospital Association, and the Office of Career Technical Education.
