Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Awardees Announced

The Montgomery County Educational Service Center Governing Board announced the 2023 Franklin B. Walters Scholarship winners during a ceremony on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Dayton Marriott. Each school district in Montgomery County selects a senior recipient based on criteria such as awards, activities, an essay, attendance, GPA, ACT/SAT scores and staff recommendations.  

Each nominee, one per high school, will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Montgomery County Educational Service Center. In addition, the student named a Teacher of Influence who were also honored during the ceremony and those teachers receive $500 for classroom supplies. 

"I want to thank our MCESC Governing Board on their support and commitment to education in our communities," said Shannon Cox, MCESC Superintendent. "Without the boards dedication to the Franklin B. Walter Scholarship program, none of this would be happening."

The Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Awards Program was established by the Ohio Superintendent’s Educational Service Center Association to promote student achievement and recognize outstanding students.  The scholarship award is named in honor of Franklin B. Walter who served as State Superintendent of Education for Ohio from March 1977 until August 1991.
